Spices

Cinnamon

Is easily recognized by it's fragrant, sweet and warming aroma. It comes from the bark of a small tree. It is one of the oldest known spices documented as far back as 2700 b.c. in China. It is a source of manganese, iron, calcium and fiber. Cinnamon has the noted health benefit of lowering LDL cholesterol, regulating blood sugar, and is a natural microbial that can prevent bacteria growth. Cinnamon is in Sweet Chow's Pecan 3 Spice Raisin and Chocolate Cherry blends..

Nutmeg

Is a sweet spice native to the south pacific. It comes from the fruit of a tree, when ripe it splits open revealing a pecan size nut. The nut is the nutmeg and the outer covering is the spice mace. Studies have shown nutmeg can lower blood pressure, is an anti-inflammatory and aids in digestion. A little trivia fact: Connecticut, Sweet Chow's home, is known as the Nutmeg State. There is an unflattering story behind this but suffice it to say Nutmeg does not come from Connecticut. Nutmeg is in Sweet Chow's Pecan 3 Spice Raisin blend.

Cardamom

Is known as the “Queen of Spices”. Cardamom has a sweet floral flavor with touch of heat. It is related to the ginger plant. It is known to be a digestive aid and stimulates the metabolism. Cardamom contains magnesium, manganese and B vitamins. Is is a very concentrated spice; A little goes a long way. It is an ancient spice, thought of as an aphrodisiac, dating back to Greek, Roman, Egyptian and Arab cultures. Cardamom is in Sweet Chow's Pecan 3 Spice Raisin blend.

Chocolate

Is intensely dark, sweet, bitter and packed with nutrition. There is a reason we love it so much. Chocolate increases serotonin and stimulates endorphins. It has a healthy monounsaturated fat similar to olive oil that can lower LDL cholesterol. It has more antioxidants than milk and 3x the amount of green tea. Chocolate increases blood flow to the brain and abounds in vitamins A, B1, C, D and E. Sweet Chow buys it's large chocolate chips from Ghirardelli, a California company that roasts it's own cacao beans for 150 years. The chocolate melts into the granola as the Chocolate Cherry blend bakes.

Almond Extract

Our almond extract is pure and natural made from the bitter almond plant. There are no synthetic chemicals used to mimic the almond flavor. The flavor is very intense, with a strong sweet flavor. The extract is used in Sweet Chow's Almond Turkish Apricot blend.

Orange Oil

Our orange oil is a natural essence, cold pressed from the rind of the fruit. It takes over 200 oranges to create only 5 ounces of oil. The oil adds a distinctly fresh “zing” to Sweet Chow's Cashew Orange Cranberry blend.
