Ingredients
 Honey
Sweet Chow uses a local wild flower honey from Connecticut. Wild flower honey has a deep intense
flavor unlike clover which is the more popular well known sweetener.
Wild Flower Honey comes from a vast variety of plants, flowers, shrubs and trees. It is a blend of
everything the bees find to drink nectar from. The honey changes year to year depending on the
weather. Too much or too little rain affects the flower production. Our honey is harvested in the fall,
therefore the bees have had a variety of plants to collect from through the spring and summer.Wild
flower honey is a complex, very flavorful honey that has great body, a dark color and beautiful
aroma.
Darker honey has more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidant properties compared to lighter honey.
Compared to table sugar, honey has a healthier Glycemic Index (GI) which measures the negative impact of a given food on the blood glucose level. The lower the GI rating the slower the absorption and infusion of sugars into the bloodstream and hence a more gradual and healthier digestion process.

Oats
Sweet Chow uses only organic oats in it's granola blends. They are a powerhouse of nutrition. Oats contain protein, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, thiamin, folic acid, riboflavin, niacin, selenium, and vitamin E. Oats are a complex carbohydrate, thus they give long lasting energy that does not cause the blood sugar to drop rapidly. Oats are a great source of dietary fiber. They consist of approximately 55 percent soluble fiber and 45 percent insoluble fiber. Fiber makes you feel full longer, which helps with weight loss by preventing overindulging on sugary snacks. Eating a diet rich in oats significantly reduces both blood pressure and cholesterol, which is known to reduce the risk of heart disease. Lastly, oats contain phytochemicals. Lignan is a type of phytochemical abundant in oats that has been linked to a decreased risk of breast cancer and colon cancer. |

Wheat Germ and Wheat Bran
Both come from the same wheat kernel but have distinct flavors and health benefits. The germ is the vitamin and mineral rich embryo of the kernel, the most inner part of the seed, which is the life force of the plant. Packed with important B vitamins, such as folate, thiamin, B6, and the minerals zinc, magnesium, iron, and manganese. The wheat germ also has a high oil content, and subsequently a high amount of vitamin E. If allowed to sprout all the nutrients are housed here to create a new life. The germ is golden in color, light in texture with the aroma and flavor of sweet nut. Bran on the other hand is darker and has a deep distinctly earthy flavor. It is the outermost layer of the wheat berry, one of nature’s richest sources of natural dietary fiber. |

Flax Seeds
Are a tiny brown seed with a hard shiny shell. They feature a soft crunchy bite and a subtle nutty flavor. They have a powerful mix of protein, minerals, and fiber. Flax seeds are famous for their high omega 3 essential fatty acids and are high in phytoestrogens and antioxidants. |

Pumpkin Seeds
Are also known as Pepitas. They are a delightfully sweet and chewy flat dark green seed hidden away inside the orange pumpkins all too familiar at Halloween time. Pumpkin seeds are one of natures amazing foods loaded with minerals including magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, iron, zinc, copper, potassium, calcium, and vitamin K. They have phytosterols, which are believed to reduce cholesterol and enhance the immune system. |
|
Sunflower Seeds
Are creamy white crunchy morsels with a mildly nutty flavor. The seeds come from the center of the beautiful giant sunflower with bright yellow petals. Sunflower seeds are power-packed with nutrients, which is why birds favor them over other seeds. The seed contains protein, fiber, vitamin E and D, selenium, copper, zinc, folate, and iron. The seeds have a high oil content, therefore they are one of the main sources of polyunsaturated oil. |

Coconut
Shredded coconut is a sweet and delicious tropical crunchy nut full of high quality fatty acids. These fats are essential requirements for the brain and nervous system to function properly. The nut contains a medium chain fatty acid, which differs from a long chain fatty acid typical of an animal origin saturated fat. MCFA are very different from LCFA. They do not have a negative effect on cholesterol and help to protect against heart disease. MCFA help to lower the risk of both atherosclerosis and heart disease. Coconut is highly nutritious and rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. It is classified as a "functional food" because it provides many health benefits beyond its nutritional content such as an anti-viral and antibacterial . |
