Our Story

For over twenty years, Jennifer has been baking homemade granola for her health conscious family. One day after mixing up a batch, she had no time to bake the wonderful, sticky concoction. Later, when Jennifer returned to her kitchen, she popped the batch of unbaked granola into the oven and the concept for cook-it yourself, home-baked Sweet Chow was born. Over the years there was never one specific recipe used or even followed for that matter. Handfuls of oats one day, cupfuls of nuts the next, sprinkles of various dried fruit. After the original “wow” moment of “this is amazing no one has ever done this before” the hard work began.

Creating the best recipe from years of playing in the kitchen took time, patience and a lot of tastings. Finally, with the perfect measurements in cups, conversion into ounces and grams began and purchasing a quality scale for precision measuring. Then came the shock of creating a commercial kitchen to code, inspection, water testing, stainless steel equipment, shelving, storage, packaging equipment, and all the little details. One of the most important tasks was finding distributors with high quality organic and natural ingredients. More rules and regulations followed for food packaging laws. What the label says and where it states the information were surprising details never imagined. Lets not forget insurance and registration with the Secretary of the State for a tax ID number. Website fees, creating a logo, business cards, university classes on entrepreneurship, QuickBooks accounting workshops, Excel classes and on and on before even one bag was sold.

A great “aha” moment in the kitchen led to a journey of knowledge and respect for other entrepreneurs. Jennifer's mantra has been “success is in the journey not the destination”. Creating a fabulous healthy granola our customers ask for more of is our success story.
